ACS EDI Gateway, Inc. would like to welcome submitters from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Beginning no later than October 15, 2003, ACS EDI Gateway will be your entry point for electronic Medicaid transactions.   ACS EDI Gateway will support the HIPAA mandated electronic transactions and code sets through phased release efforts.

Providers need to make make a due diligence effort to become HIPAA compliant as soon as possible. But the key factor is to remember that they have a backup plan in place. Providers who are not certain they will be ready for HIPAA compliance can rely on the dual support system - Medicaid will continue to process pre-HIPAA claims under providers' old claim-filing system. This will be for a limited time based on CMS guidelines.

IMPORTANT!  Notify Medicaid of Your Readiness to Send Production HIPAA Claims - Medicaid needs to know that you are ready to send HIPAA compliant X12N 837 transactions. Until you notify us we will assume you are still testing. You may need to coordinate this communication with your clearinghouse, billing agent or software vendor. Providers who are ready to file HIPPAA-compliant claims or their clearinghouses MUST call ACS EDI (850) 558-1630 to notify ACS EDI Gateway they are ready to send production claims.

• Software developers should utilize Companion Guides in conjunction with the national ANSI ASC X12N Implementation Guides.  These guides will be used to code their applications to meet the Washington DSHS data receipt requirements.
